The Indian rupee (R) is broken down into 100 paise (p.). Paise coins are increasingly rare due to their value, so coins are produced in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 25 and 50 paise, and 1, 2 and 5 rupees. Rupee notes are made in denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1,000 – the 1,000 notes are rare due to their high value. The value of the Indian rupee is relatively stable and is linked to a 'basket' of currencies.

The national network for conservation of wildlife was established during the 1970s in India. This was strengthened by the Wildlife Protection Act, created two years later, and led to the formation of up to 60 sanctuaries and over 410 parks.
